Electrical power steering (EPS) shows increasing importance. Having been introduced in middle-size passenger cars, EPS is now reaching for larger vehicles and SUV market. However, a lot of questions remain: The introduction of ISO 26262 for all functional safety systems constitutes a main challenge. In addition, the realization of an optimal steering feel remains an issue. And the search is for additional functionalities EPS is enabling. Finally, the question is whether we need something like a standard for EPS architecture and concepts.
